Brief
In Colombia, we have a big problem. There are great talents but not many opportunities, which have become increasingly limited over time. Day by day, there is a growing need to establish a remote/diverse/flexible job market that attracts investors, companies, and ideas to our country.
This would help valorize and include new and young professional and technical talents in the labor market in a smoother and more beneficial way for them.

Camello
is an innovative web platform designed to revolutionize job search, freelance engagement, and process automation for informal technology workers in Colombia. Leveraging artificial intelligence, Camello aims to create a personalized platform that evaluates skills, aptitudes, locations, and various other metrics to offer a comprehensive user experience in finding job opportunities. It also nurtures a national and international community through interactive sections for knowledge sharing, advice, and diverse online communication tools.

A bit of context.

‍

In Colombia, the employment landscape for 18-35-year-olds is heavily characterized by the prevalence of informal work, with over 56% of this demographic engaged in unstructured, highly skilled roles outside the formal job market. This trend, driven by limited official job opportunities and economic instability, reflects broader systemic issues within the labor market. Despite these challenges, Colombian youth ✌🏽 exhibit remarkable adaptability and resilience, turning to self-employment and leveraging new technologies to create their own economic opportunities.
‍
This shift towards informal work reveals an economy in transition, where the seeds of entrepreneurship and innovation are beginning to take root. The spirit of creativity among young Colombians suggests a potential for significant economic growth if harnessed through targeted policies and support mechanisms. By fostering this ingenuity, Colombia can pave the way for a more dynamic and inclusive future, transforming its labor market and ensuring sustainable progress for its youth.
Colombia's informal work sector struggles with limited information, connectivity issues, time management constraints, economic insecurity, and a lack of benefits. The main challenges include disorganized information, restricted access to opportunities, and a lack of connections with similar professionals for collaboration and support. Innovative technological solutions are needed to enhance connectivity, streamline information access, and foster meaningful networks among independent workers, enabling them to succeed in a dynamic work environment.
This is how i realized that the need to create new digital environments that are friendly to localization, language, and industry was essential. It was necessary to start adopting and transforming the freelance market with a community idea, to utilize and enhance local talent. Adapting was the urgency, and showcasing would be the opportunity.

For whom?

From this, we begin to understand who was part of our target audience. Freelancers can have different goals, as we saw in our issues and approaches, which largely depend on the stage of their professional development. Many are starting out and their priority is finding clients; then there are the experienced ones who prioritize networking; and finally, those who use the service sporadically, aiming to improve their skills or gain recognition in the design community.
‍
I decided to divide them into three profiles or stages:
‍
- The Experienced Senior Tech Guy
- The One-Time Stand Informal One
- The Digital-First Explorer

What I aim?

After understanding who I was targeting and their current situation, I began designing the idea. I decided to focus on three important problems in the world of freelancers/independent workers:

Networking - Guidance - CommunityThe idea will aim to provid Β from financial management tools, and offer educational resources on practical aspects of independent work. It also will point to the necessity of community support (for newbies and experimented), continuous skill development, and stronger professional networks to aid freelancers in navigating the challenges of their professional journey and staying competitive in the evolving landscape.

So let's resolve this:

How might we optimize our platform to effectively connect with and cater to the unique needs and accessibility concerns of self-employed and informal workers in Colombia, ensuring their active engagement and success in the evolving landscape of the gig economy?

Information
Architecture

The idea needed to include essential features for community, guidance for freelancers, and a source of information for independent workers. It was chaotic. Figuring out how to connect these features made me realize the need for a core action to build the other sections.

This core action would allow for secondary actions like personalized job searches, additional information, or streamlined user flows to make it compact and functional. Understanding this structure was crucial for developing a cohesive and effective solution for freelancers.
